Vice President Kamala Harris defeated President-Elect Donald Trump in New Jersey, 51% to 47% with 94% of the results in, which marks a 12-point shift from 2020, when President Joe Biden defeated Trump, 57% to 41%.
Trump had the best performance by a Republican in New Jersey since George W. Bush earned 46% of the vote in 2004, the last time Republicans won the popular vote.
Bergen County saw a 13-point shift from 2020, with Harris carrying the affluent suburban county by only three points. While Harris won Union County easily by 24 points, it marked a 12-point shift from 2020.
While Harris won reliably deep blue strongholds like Hudson County and Essex County easily, the results show a dramatic shift toward Trump in both counties, up to 20 points in Hudson County with 94 percent of the results in.
Cumberland County voted Republican for the first time since George H.W. Bush in 1988, with Trump winning 52% to 47. Cumberland had voted for Biden 52% to 46% in 2020.
With 92% of the vote in, Trump leads in Passaic County by 3 points. Biden won Passaic County by 16.5 points in 2020 and Passaic has not voted Republican since 1992.
Gloucester County also flipped back to Trump after voting for Biden in 2020, with Trump winning 51% to 48%.
With 94% of the vote in, Morris County looks to be back to a reliably Republican county, with Trump leading 51% to 47%. Morris County voted for Biden by the same margin in 2020, the first time a Democrat carried Morris since 2020.
